Daniel and I were able to get out on a couple rivers in Costa Rica over Easter break this year. We hired Madri Madrigal who is a former Olympic Slalom whitewater Kayaker who competed for Costa Rica in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. He was an excellent guide and was able to find a couple of rivers that were a good fit for our abilities: the Sarapiqui River (class II-III) and the Pacuare River (class III – IV). The Pacuare river was featured in the 1995 movie “Congo”. The scenery and was water was amazing! Can’t wait to return.
Madri was able to give Daniel some great advice for a developing Slalom kayaker. His best advice to take up yoga for calming the mind before a race and doing rotator cuff exercises while watching TV.
Madri’s guide company is “Costa Rica Experience” and can be found online at http://www.crexperience.co . Look him up if you want to have a great experience in a great country. He specializes in groups looking for adventure (surfing, mountain biking, kayaking, rafting, volcanos, and much more)
